Inpatient Information

On the day of your admission, please go directly to Reception and ask for your directions to your ward. 

It is important that you bring the following: 

  • Your appointment letter (if applicable)

  • A valid form of identification (I.D Card, Driver’s Permit, Passport)

  • Medical reports or documents – Any documents pertaining to your medical problem

  • Insurance Form (if any)

  • Insurance card (if any)

  • Funds to cover your admission charges (cash, Linx, credit card, certified cheque)

  • Your regular prescription list (if you have one) 

  • Any tablets or medicines that you are currently taking, including those which may be for any non-neurological conditions you have, for example asthma, heart disease. Particularly if you have to take your medicine at certain times of the day.

    After checking you in and welcoming you to your ward, a member of our care team will show you to your bed, which will have a bedside cabinet for your personal belongings. All tests, treatments, procedures, and operations depending on your condition will be explained to you. You will be asked to sign a consent form for the treatment proposed.

    If you have any questions or concerns about your treatment at any time, please alert your nurse. All our staff should be wearing an identity badge and introduce themselves. We will do our very best to accommodate individual concerns.

    If you are unable to keep your appointment for any reason, please call and let us know as soon as possible.

Consent to treatment

Before signing your consent form, the doctor will give a clear explanation of your condition and any proposed tests, treatment, procedure and operation- including any risks involved and any alternatives there may be. Remember to ask questions if you are not sure or do not understand.

Please ask for it to be repeated or explained more clearly. You may wish to ask if there is written information about your condition or treatment if you do not have this already.

You will have been given an indication of how long your stay is likely to be. This may change as your treatment and care progress, however, so please ask your nurse or doctor if they feel your planned day for going home has or is likely to change.

Medication

It is vital that you bring any medications with you that you are currently taking, in its original container. Nursing staff will take these from you and may use them during your stay. They will be returned to you on discharge if they are still required along with any medication you need to take home. In some cases, patients are asked to stop specific medication at certain times prior to their admission. Please follow the specific instructions given to you by your nurse or doctor.

Meals and Mealtimes

There is a varied menu for most meals in the hospital. Special dietary requirements should be indicated during check-in.

Breakfast : 8 am to 9 am

Lunch: 12 pm to 1 pm

Evening Meal: 5 pm to 6:30 pm

What should I bring to the hospital?

A bedside cabinet will be provided for your belongings, but space is limited so please do not bring more than you need. Kindly leave all valuables at home. While we make every effort to provide a secure environment, Valsayn Medical cannot accept responsibility for valuables brought in by patients during their stay.

Below is a helpful checklist for what to bring into hospital: 

  • Comfortable clothes to wear during the day (e.g. loose pants, tracksuit pants, leggings, t-shirt, jersey, hoodie, dress) 

  • Underwear 

  • Pyjamas to wear at night 

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste 

  • Deodorant 

  • Hairbrush/comb 

  • Slippers (preferably with a full back and non-slip soles) 

  • Hearing aid and spare batteries 

  • Shaving equipment 

  • Soap and face cloth 

  • Sanitary items 

  • Reading glasses and case 

  • Hearing aid and storage box

  • Denture storage box

  • Shampoo 

  • Any medications you are taking and which the attending physician has indicate

  • Contact names and numbers for 2-3 family members and/or friends
